How to Organize Your Garage

Posted under Tips

garage-storage-plan-00

The garage is one room in our home which is used to stack away all those things that we no longer need in near future. To start organizing it, first make a map of the garage area. This will come in handy while planning the space.

This map can be hand drawn and you can assign each section of the garage for a particular use, for instance, gardening, sports etc. You don’t need to draw it to exact scale, a rough estimate will also do. This will help you decide what kind of storage system will suit your needs and budget.

Posted under Safety Tips, Tips

insect20repellent

While I am working in my garden, I am always on the lookout for any kind of insects on my dear plants. After all, we water the plants and nurture them so that they end up being healthy and without any decay. Here is a tip for natural insect repellant.

To conserve the environment, make use of insect repellants made from distillates if cedar wood, orange, eucalyptus and bay leaves. This repellant can be used for spraying in the house or on flea collars for pets. An additional advantage of using these repellants is they don’t harm you as they are completely natural.

Polish Furniture like a Pro

Posted under Tips

The elegance of polished wooden furniture is unmatched. However you need to touch up on the polish after it loses its sheen over a period of time. This is another DIY tip for you.

Use a soap and water solution for washing finished furniture. Then mix 3 tablespoons olive oil and one tablespoon vinegar for polishing. You can also mix 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil or olive oil to one tablespoon of lemon juice for a wonderful shine. Apply any one of these and polish with a soft and clean cloth.

Do you know any other uses of vinegar? Do let me know.

Care for Your Crystal Ware

Posted under Cleaning Tips, Tips

I love my crystal ware and China tea cups and saucers. But sometimes I start worrying about them when the kids are home alone, as they might dash on to my crockery unit and damage my precious crystal while they are running around! Who will like this?

I found a great remedy for this! If you wish to avoid your crystal or China ware from falling from the glass shelf, stick it properly with a scotch tape in such places that would not be seen from outside. This way the glass ware is secured and will not drop in any case!

Polish Silver At Home

Posted under Tips

untitled

A trick is to take a large pan and lay a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom. Then pour water up to three inches approximately. To the water, add a teaspoon of baking soda, salt and bring this solution to a boil. Add the silver items and see to it that they are covered in water completely. Let them boil for another two minutes. Remove the silver pieces, rinse with water and wipe it slowly with a soft cloth.

Try this at home and let me know whether it worked. There is one more such tip coming up next!

Bring Light in Your Home

Posted under Tips

lightbeam

When we start thinking that our house looks dim, we try and add more lights to the rooms. But there is much more to that than just adding lights.

Open the windows and let the sunshine in for some part of the day. It will disinfect the home and make it brighter. You can also try wiping the bulbs and tube lights in your home and see the difference. The dust gathered on these lighting fixtures decreases the amount of light emitted to a certain extent.

Tell me what you do for making your home look illuminated so that I can share it with others!

Posted under Tips

We all live in a home and there are bound to be those extra sets of bed sheets, pillows, woolens etc. that we stack away in a closet when not needed. But does your closet smell nice with all of these things inside?

The trick is to place camphor balls in the corners of the compartments and in between the sheets too. This way there will not be any ant or cockroach infestation and your rugs will have an aroma when you open them for use again. Try and keep the doors of the closet open for some time for ventilation.

Clogged pipes of the kitchen sink are similar to a nightmare for me! I read this handy and simple tip for unclogging a pipe in some magazine and I wish to share it with you.

Mix a handful of soda bicarbonate and one cup of vinegar. Pour this mixture over the clogged kitchen sink pipe and let it stay that way for an hour. There will be a chemical reaction due to the two ingredients and it will help in clearing the pipe well. After an hour, pour lots of water and clean the sink. It really helps, trust me!

Good Use of a Toothbrush

Posted under Tips

We usually tend to throw away the worn out toothbrushes at home. I will tell you some great uses of a toothbrush you no longer wish to use.

A toothbrush has bristles and they work fine for cleaning some things even though they are no longer right for your teeth. You can clean the hard to reconcept-toothbrushach crevices in a comb using a toothbrush. Simply wash off with soap later. You can scrub in between the tiles on the kitchen and bathroom walls with this toothbrush.

A toothbrush is best to revive the color of your tea cups or mugs if used with a liquid soap.
