Make Your Closet Smell Good

Posted under Tips

We all live in a home and there are bound to be those extra sets of bed sheets, pillows, woolens etc. that we stack away in a closet when not needed. But does your closet smell nice with all of these things inside?

The trick is to place camphor balls in the corners of the compartments and in between the sheets too. This way there will not be any ant or cockroach infestation and your rugs will have an aroma when you open them for use again. Try and keep the doors of the closet open for some time for ventilation.

Posted under Tips

how-to-clear-a-clogged-drain-1

Clogged pipes of the kitchen sink are similar to a nightmare for me! I read this handy and simple tip for unclogging a pipe in some magazine and I wish to share it with you.

Mix a handful of soda bicarbonate and one cup of vinegar. Pour this mixture over the clogged kitchen sink pipe and let it stay that way for an hour. There will be a chemical reaction due to the two ingredients and it will help in clearing the pipe well. After an hour, pour lots of water and clean the sink. It really helps, trust me!

See Through the Strainer

Posted under Kitchen

strainer

I am one of those who do not like drinking tea made using tea bags. I prefer to make it by boiling tea leaves, water and sugar together in a pot. The side effect of this procedure is a stained metal strainer that I use after the tea has boiled.

For cleaning this strainer that gets blocked after a period of use, I put it in boiling water to which some detergent has been added. I let it remain for some time. Then I rub it with a worn out toothbrush and the strainer is back to its original clean form!

If you happen to pour some more milk than required for heating in the microwave oven, it is bound to spill for sure! Now that the damage is done, let us see what we can do about it.

Make a mixture of five parts of salt and one portion of cinnamon. Pour this mixture on the turntable where the spillover has happened. The salt absorbs the spill and the cinnamon will rid the oven of the bad burnt smell of milk or anything else. The oven will cool down gradually after which you can scrape out the mixture with a spatula and wipe the area clean.

Pests will be pests and they are made to bother you! You need to keep your home and especially, your kitchen very clean to avoid the intrusion of such cockroaches. It also helps if you don’t drop food particles on the kitchen floor, and if ever you do, clean it up as soon as possible.

Placing orange peels in cockroach infested areas will make them run for life. Orange lets out a strong smell that these pests cannot stand for long. You can try hiring the services of a pest control company and rid your home of cockroaches and ants using organic options.

Ants Galore

I really don’t understand how those tiny ants can get into the tightest lid of a sugar container! However much I tried before, I had to spend time in cleaning the ants from the sugar box before using it.

Then one fine day I used a tip from my mother. I wiped the kitchen work counter with a vinegar and water solution in which I took one teaspoon vinegar and three teaspoons water. I was amazed to find that the ants had lost their way…out of my house!

You can try this and let me know if you have some tips too!

Caution with a Barbeque

Posted under Safety Tips

barbeque

A barbeque party is much loved by everyone as it gives us a chance to be outdoors for sometime. However there are some points that need to be taken care of while planning a barbeque party.

Never ever use any inflammable liquid to light up or revive a barbeque. It might result in dangerous flames that will ruin the whole party. Also take care that you don’t place the barbeque grill on a satin or polyester table cloth. The risk is that it might catch fire if it comes into contact with the heat.

So follow the tips and enjoy the meal!

Good Use of a Toothbrush

Posted under Tips

We usually tend to throw away the worn out toothbrushes at home. I will tell you some great uses of a toothbrush you no longer wish to use.

A toothbrush has bristles and they work fine for cleaning some things even though they are no longer right for your teeth. You can clean the hard to reconcept-toothbrushach crevices in a comb using a toothbrush. Simply wash off with soap later. You can scrub in between the tiles on the kitchen and bathroom walls with this toothbrush.

A toothbrush is best to revive the color of your tea cups or mugs if used with a liquid soap.

Some Tips for Your Kitchen Sink

Posted under Kitchen

kitchensink
The kitchen sink is one place which completes the kitchen. Even though you may have the best furniture in your kitchen, the sink helps us to keep the kitchen space clean and do the dishes too.

Every week, pour in a glass full of hot water down the kitchen sink pipe. This will remove all the stickiness and grimy food particles stuck in the pipe. It will also help to avoid clogging of the sink. Take care that you do not let any food particles go into this pipe as they will decay and let out a bad odor after a while.

This is a time of slowdown and recession. You cannot afford the luxury of sending your shirt or dress to the laundry for getting rid of tea stains and spend so many dollars for a simple job like that. I will tell you how you can remove tea and coffee stains without going to the laundry.

If you ever spill tea or coffee on your clothes, just rub some common salt on the stained area. Let it be like that for a while. Then rinse the piece of clothing after about ten minutes. This is a home remedy and can be done at almost no cost!
